THE NHS is urging mums-to-be to bump the flu jab up to the top of their Christmas list.

A new report revealed last week that 36 women died from flu over the past three years in England.

By taking up the offer of a free flu jab, they will benefit from the antibodies produced following vaccination which can prevent serious infection from flu for the baby in its first few weeks of life.

But, as always, the earlier pregnant women have the vaccine, the longer they will be protected over the winter months.

Anyone who wants the vaccine should contact their GP or pharmacist.
