CHRISTMAS shoppers have been reminded they can park for free in Rochford District Council’s car parks all day on December 6, 13 and 20.
The council is offering the free Saturday shopping parking on those dates to boost trade.
Parking is usually free on just Saturday afternoons in the district's pay and display car parks.
Mike Steptoe, Tory councillor responsible for enterprise, said: “I am pleased that we have been able to continue free Saturday afternoon parking in all our pay and display car parks, to the benefit of shoppers and traders.”
The Echo had previously incorrectly stated that the council charged for parking all day on Saturdays throughout the year.
The authority is also looking to revamp Rochford’s Market Square, but would like to make it clear that no funding has yet been agreed for those proposals.
At the turn of the year, the council also voted to increase car park charges by 25 per cent for an hour of parking in a move that would bring in an estimated extra £125,000 for the authority.
