A CAMPAIGN has been launched against plans for a lap dancing club in Benfleet.
Angry residents have united to object to the club on the Manor Trading estate.
Nearby businesses and parents have raised concerns about how close the venue would be to a nursery and a dance school.
Called Galore, the club is asking Castle Point Council for permission to open between 8pm and 5am – meaning it would open when children could be leaving the nearby dance school.
George Robertson, 37, who works at Ankon Manufacturers on the estate, said: “I wouldn’t think it would be the best thing to have next to a nursery. There are already some characters on this estate, so I wouldn’t imagine it would need any more.”
Rita Curtiss, 74, of Church Rd., who works at the nearby Farmer Fred’s Play Barn, said: “It will draw the riff-raff. Also if it’s open till 5am, what sort of noise is it going to be when the custoemrs are going home?”
Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris has been contacted by more than 30 people asking her to run a petition.
Many objectors raised fears about how close the club would be to homes. Mrs Harris said: “The best-run businesses work closely with police and are in well-lit areas.’’ But this was an area that did not have a strong police presence or good lighting, she said.
She added: “People will be very annoyed if there are late-night disturbances.”
Castle Point Councillor Bill Dick, a governor at Robert Drake Primary School, which is near the site, also raised concerns.
Mrs Harris added: “It’s not a moral crusade or prudishness – it’s just been placed too near the village.
“Ordinary licensing hours are bad enough, but closing at 5am – there will be an overspill into residential areas. Once the licence is granted, it’s quite hard to rein back.
“I just don’t think being near the residential area is the right place for it.”

It would open when children could be leaving a nearby dance school.... So??
unless it is an open air lap dancing club, this will have no implications on the kids whatsoever.
In regards to it drawing "Riff-Raff" - that is quite an assumption and personally they should be more concerned if it was a nightclub rather than a small town lap club.
I think they are clutching at straws with their "campaign" and need to go back to the drawing board until they find something a bit more solid to oppose this with.

Blimey...... the residents of Benfleet must be stuck in some kind of time warp!
What's the issue here? The proposed club will be on and industrial/business park. Whilst there may be some over*lap* between the club opening and dance school times, I doubt there would be hoards of people queuing up to get in the place at 8pm.
As for "riff raff" I very much doubt it, from what I'm led to believe these places aren't cheap to visit!

... and until then, I guess you and the 3 people who have liked your comment will continue to look forward to your pre-booked lap-dance with Mercedes?

Funny how it is always the ugly birds that object. Well I don't need to go and see naked women dancing on the table. I get enough of that at home!

fantastic addition for Benfleet, and lets face it, the place could do with a bit of life besides half a dozen cr*p pubs...... hope this gets approved without delay....

Not only is Manor Trading Estate well lit all night (unlike the rest of Castle Point), but there are quite a few lights left on in Church Road, as you come out of Manor Trading, plus around Manor lights and further up around Robert Drake. It's the most lit area of Castle Point at night other than the Canvey one-way system.
As for being residential, are these people having a laugh? It's an industrial estate.
The comments about children coming out of the dance centre are just as stupid. Up in Hadleigh you have the Con Club and Fattys right next to Western School of Dance. Have there been any problems there? Nope.

Oh no ..... They are opening a lap dance club !!
"Quick"... Lock up your husbands lol ....
How many of these 30 people are women? , how many watched magic mike last week on TV ? , how many woo at the diet coke break advert ? .... This is the 21st century , paying £25 for a dance is no different to be watching the dream boys getting there kit off.
So its near a school , the people are not walking in with there bits hanging out , just because they are going to the club doesn't make them any different to people who have watched the dream boys and all sorts ....
There are escorts for the more touchy feely , that has been the norm since the start of time .
Personally , any lady or man worried about their fella or lady going to this place needs to look at the underlying problem ...ie " trust" .... They are obviously in a very insecure /unstrustworthy relationship.
I hear the chatter from my misses , the women are having kittens .
PS , never been myself, just don't like the sexist way its OK to have magic mike and all sorts on "national TV" during the day , yet can't have a lap dance club in private .

1 final point .... When you get home tonight , don't forget to scrub all social networks and all from your children's/grandchil
drens phone etc .... Don't forget to lock all music channels and all sorts ..... The filth on these platforms are a lot lot worse than a adult dance club yet many parents let there kids twerk away all day to this so called entertainment..... Bet their grandparents are well proud !!
Right , rant over ..... Maybe things are more in perspective now ..... I doubt it .

As a resident of South Benfleet I find the idea of a lap dancing bar distasteful and repugnant.
On the other hand I would welcome a roller disco.

Can you imagine the kind of two bob mugs a lap dancing place in Southend, Leigh or Benfleet would attract?

Who is going to find it for one thing, Manor Trading estate is hardly on the way home from anywhere.
I will give it 2 years max then it will shut down on its own failings and once the novelty wears off and people go back to the Zac for a cheaper beer.
Dead in the water, stupid location for a business venture surely.

A business venture on a business park .... Who would ever had thought ;) .
"Two bob mugs " says the king of Southend?? ....well let's say in this instance you are correct, its better to have them all in one place than scattered around the area don't you think .
Sex sells , watch the music channels for verification.

I hardley think a lapdancing club in the back end of Benfleet on an Industrial site is going to get the open channel publicity of a music station on Sky/Virgin.
I would have looked to a site along either the A13 or A127 for people returning from clubs in either direction, as the trade in lap dancing clubs usually comes from nightclubs early hours of the morning. I dont know of many clubbers who take their sat navs with them.
All in one place? only one club, like I said not a good location for a business

This is 2014 and as Electric11235 said, sex sells.... Fact.
The fact that it is on an industrial state, should bother you less. How many times have you been on Manor Trading estate after 8:00pm in the last 5 or 10 years?? Probably none or at the very worst case a handful of times. so the impact that this club will have on you is........ none.

This would be correct if said person had the amount of funds needed to purchase a prime spot along the A13/A127 and wanted to take on such a large establishment needed to service the many that would use it on their way home from work etc.
I'm sure they looked at all options, they are business minded and worked out their finances . you don't have to goto a night club to be allowed to attend a lap dance after , wouldn't it be better to call an escort if your intention was to have sex that day instead of wasting money on clubbing and then lapdancer.
The whole point of a satnav is to take you to the place for which you wish to attend but are unsure on how to get there ....hence your "who is going to find it for one thing". As for you quote virgin bla bla bla ..... Sex for sale has been around for a very long time , people will pay for it , the lure of the female body attracts and people will pay to see it .... That's the way it is .
As for the so called " mugs" , the ones that would usually be on the streets in one place ,yes that's a good thing .

You have lost me to be honest with your comments about sex with escorts and clubbing. Whilst drinking in a club usually someone comes up with the idea of going on to a lapdancing club to continue to party and watch girls in skimpy gear dance. This is a lot of business for the lap dancing club as people turn up with less innabitions and more likely to spend the money.
Maybe my comment about finding it wasnt portayed incorrectly as I meant it will not get the exposure it requires to become a top club within the South Essex scene as it is off the beaten track. As for the Mugs comment that wasnt me and I am not against lapdancing clubs for the record I just dont frequent them because I find them expensive and quite boring. This will open and we will see if it is a success in the future.

I agree, we have skate parks at canvey and benfleet, I personally believe they should build an ice skating rink on canvey near Morrison's , the nearest is Chelmsford and that covers such a wide area , its to far away for the kids to attend on a weekly basis , we moan at the kids but then shut their community clubs etc so they have nowhere to go ...but that's a different discussion.(non skaters/bikers).

Women love to dance , they go clubbing to dance, men love to pull , I can't believe most are going there to dance the night away... What I don't understand is if they are going to pull, why get all tarted up just to get sweety , probably not pull (50 50)and then go to a lap dance club ? Would be a lot cheaper to just call the escort in my opinion .
We are both seeing the situation in a different way along with the outcomes .
Personally couldn't think of nothing worse than watching a sexy lady dance in front of me and not take her home .... But hey , that's me lol

A disaster in the making for local residents when they are woken up by stag parties leaving at 5 am with no taxis around, no transport links.
The argument is not if those establishments are right or wrong the argument is is it the right location, plain and simple.
To begin with because it is a private run estate the roads and footpaths are not public property and the Powers of the police are questionable on that estate be it from Drunk Driving to Public Order.
It is painfully obvious to any half wit that although the club /premises might be Well run there will be restricted control of what can be done in the Estate which is privately owned ,once the prostitutes from all over the area realise they can work out of sight out of mind and have plenty of drunken randy leavers.
A total disaster for that community, the local Police and a massive increase in street offences which will include drug problems due to many prostitutes having to feed there habits.
If anyone from outside the area needs convincing how dark and dismal the estate is take a trip any evening.

Hmmmm..... I would question 1. Would they even have money in there pockets after coming out of the club, 2 .would prostitutes need to work there for cover when they can hang out anywhere after 12am as the lights are off till 5 am, there are plenty of clubs and pubs situated in hidy hole places.3. The business wouldn't own the whole area, just their club, other business owners would report any infringments which would then allow the police to act accordingly. 4. Prostitutes supply a very important service, to suddenly withdraw their service would see rape/sexual assault rise ex potentially. 5. Again, why would you waste money in a lap dance joint if your intention was to get layed ..... 6.Massive increase in street offences ? .... How many people can this club hold ? 7. Drug habits..... Don't have to be a prostitute to be a drugy , don't think they will want trouble , they are working .

The reality is simple
WRONG LOCATION !
Locals will suffer the most and time will tell the idiots above do not have respect for anyone other than themselves as long as they are okay who cares.
As for debating this with sad people you are not worthy of debate.

The reality is simple, no where will ever be right because certain people will object to anything that has the slightest effect on their life .... They moan about the kids, but in the same breath, go against any kind of children's centre ....as for name calling , you only show your true interlect and childish mannerism .

How many stag parties currently descend upon Benfleet as a night out?
Remember there are already strip clubs in Basildon and Southend so dont expect the crowds to flock from miles away to an industrial estate tucked away in Benfleet.
Taxis can be telephoned. Benfleet has a train station.
In regards to prostitutes, I agree with Electrics comment and not only that, do you currently experience a prostitution problem in Benfleet? If not then again I can not see opportunist prostitutes flocking in to sell their services.
Then your comment about the drug problems.... I think you are clutching at straws with a lot of your fears to be honest
