A MAN was jumped from behind by two attackers who robbed him in broad daylight of just £15.

The 53-year-old victim had just withdrawn cash from Sutton Road Post Office and had walked to Warrior Square when he was attacked at about 9am.

Two men grabbed him from behind and demanded he hand over money. Police believe he may have been followed from the cash point.

The attackers fled the scene with just £15 cash.

Chief Insp Simon Anslow, district commander for Southend, said: “He is OK and has no injuries, but police are appealing for witnesses.

“This offence happened in a busy part of town at a time where there would have been a lot of people around.

“It’s likely there are people who either saw the incident happening or the suspects afterwards.

We urge them to come forward by calling Det Con Jon Holden on 101.”

The robbery, which happened on Wednesday, October 15, was one of 67 to have occurred from April to the end of September.

There were 157 in the same period last year.

Mr Anslow added: “We have seen a 50 per cent drop in robberies, which is extremely encouraging and we are keen to make sure we don’t see a rise through the autumn by identifying and catching offenders when things happen.”
