A DEVELOPMENT of five homes in a rural lane has been turned down by a government inspector at appeal.

Tendring Council originally refused planning permission for the homes on a site in Coggeshall Road, in Ardleigh earlier this year.

But Robert Auld appealed the decision in an effort to have it overturned.

Government inspector Claire Victory visited the site in October and has found in favour of the council.

She decided that the proposal was in conflict with the development plan.

She said: "The proposal would harm the character and appearance of the surrounding area and I attach substantial weight to this harm."
