A NEW railway track has been installed to make journeys into London easier.
The Great Eastern Main Line, which connects parts of Essex into London, had work carried out half way down to install a new line of track.
For the last month Network Rail engineers have been replacing four switches and crossing units on the line near Kelvedon due to wear.
They also replaced ballast, the stones which form the track bed, to keep the track in place.
Meliha Duymaz, Network Rail’s route managing director for Greater Anglia, said: “This work is essential to keep services running smoothly and safely every day on the busy mainline.
"We’ve replaced the worn track as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan to improve reliability for all passengers using services between Norwich and London.
"I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while we carried out this work.”
The work, which took Greater Anglia a month to do, was completed on Sunday October 15.
