CHILDREN and their parents enjoyed afternoon tea to celebrate their school’s first birthday.

Camulos Academy in Colchester started off with just three classrooms, but due to a demand for more primary school places and the success of the school, it quickly expanded to seven classrooms.

To celebrate its first year, staff and pupils at the school in Whitmore Drive took part in an open afternoon, where parents were invited to sit in on classes.

They finished the event off with tea and cake.

Headteacher Daryl Power said he was proud of what the school had achieved.

He said: “We wanted to thank parents for all their support and invite them into school.

“We are so proud, when we first opened we had 50 pupils and all three classrooms were full by Easter this year.

“We were approached by Essex County Council to expand so it was quicker than expected.”

The school is known by parents for its modern take on the curriculum, with children taking part in the outdoor forest school and activities such as dancing.

Mr Power said: “Our tagline is ‘bringing learning to life’. We are always looking at different ways to bring learning alive, from a hollistic approach.”

Pupils also had a great time showing their parents their hard work.
