POLICE bosses have assured people living in the Dengie that a more visible police service will be coming.

The Chief Constable of Essex Police and Police and Crime Commissioner have pledged more police officers to work in the Dengie peninsula including specialist constables that will be integrated into more remote neighbourhoods.

At the opening of the police’s new base at the Maldon District Council offices on Princes Road on Monday, PCC Roger Hirst said he would be making visits to Burnham and surrounding areas.

He said: “These processes are never easy, I’m pleased the new offices are open, and the fact that it is integrated with our colleagues at the council will help residents with their problems.

“I do understand the feeling of isolation people in Burnham, Tillingham and other Dengie villages, but we are doing the best we can to combat it.

“They need officers who are spending more time out embedded in those communities, which is why the special constables we’re bringing in will be so beneficial.”

Stephen Kavanagh, Chief Constable, said: “Having people feeling isolated is not what we want as a police force. This month we have hired 67 new officers, some of whom will be brought into the Maldon area to help out and spend more time in remote areas.

“Next month, we have an additional 60 officers coming into the force, for further help. We’ve had a budget cut of £50 million, we are trying the best we can with the limited resources we have.

“We may be downsizing our estate, but we’re not reducing our officer count.”
