THE death of a man who was found at his home in Braintree has been ruled as caused by lung cancer.

77-year-old Frederick Pavitt was found unresponsive at his Braintree home on June 18 this year.

A post mortem examination was carried out, where it was found that Mr Pavitt had been suffering from mesothelioma, a cancer which begins in the lung tissue.

At the full documentary inquest held at Essex Coroner’s Court in Chelmsford on Wednesday, coroner Eleanor McGann said: “Mr Pavitt was working from the age of 15, pursuing a career with chimney and silo builders.

“He was frequently exposed to asbestos and large quantities of dust and debris throughout his work in the 1950s and 60s. Of course, during that time, less was known about the dangers of such exposure.

“I am hereby satisfied that Mr Frederick Pavitt died as a result of mesothelioma in the lungs.”
