A DENGIE vineyard will launch two wines during English Wine Week.

Crouch Ridge Vineyard, in Althorne, will unveil their sparkling white wine and red pinot noir during an open day next month.

The ten acre vineyard grows grapes which are exclusively used to make Crouch Ridge wines.

Owner Sam Lonergan said: “Last year we launched our first wine which proved to be a huge success winning a silver national award.

“The launch attracted several hundred people who came out on a lovely sunny evening to experience Vineyard tours and taste the local wine.

“This year to complement the wines there will be a wine and food pairing in the marque, locally produced food, beer and soft drinks and also live music with The Alleycats.”

Maldon District Council and vineyards on the Dengie are exploring promoting the area as an internationally renowned wine region to rival France and South Africa.

The vineyard has also applied to the council to create a wine barn, visitor centre and eatery overlooking the river.

Sam added: “We are currently working with Maldon District Council and other local vineyards to create the Crouch Valley Wine Trail where visitors will be able to enjoy our fine English wine accompanied by local food in a beautiful place.”

The open day takes place on June 3 from 2pm to 11.30pm.

Guided tours giving information about growing and making wine will take place at 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

English Wine Week runs from May 27 to June 4.
