A VILLAGE has proposed breaking away from Suffolk to become part of Essex in a bid to prevent extra homes beign built within its boundaries.
Residents in East Bergholt are considering plans to join the Colchester borough in a bid to stop 144 new homes.
Campaigner Peter Dent said Colchester Council was known for its preservation of heritage sites.
He argued the village has a Colchester postcode and Colchester phone numbers, and he believes Colchester Council would respect the village and the heritage of Constable Country.
Residents in East Bergholt have been fighting plans for new homes for a number of years.
