A COUNCIL worker from Braintree is competing in the UK final of the world's most famous beauty competition.

Emily Cain, 24, of Broadoaks Crescent, Braintree, is one of only 35 women who will be taking part in the final of Miss Universe GB.

If the former Lyons Hall Primary School, Honywood Community Science School and Colchester Sixth Form comes out on top, she will get to represent the UK at Miss Universe 2017.

As well as working for Chelmsford City Council as a venue management officer, Emily is also a competitive cheerleader for Sparks Allstars, a history graduate and a Star Trek fan.

She said: "When I first applied for Miss Universe GB I had no idea about how much the organisation did for the empowerment of women but also the people they help.

"One of the charities the Miss Universe GB sponsors is Strongbones, a children’s charitable trust set up to help alleviate the pain, suffering and financial burden of families who have children suffering from brittle bone disease, bone cancer, scoliosis, arthritis, and all other serious conditions of the bone.

"They provide so much for these children and their families so they can live their life to the full, it is a beautiful charity that does so much.

"During the lead up to the final I will have to raise as much money as I can for Strongbones and I already have a few plans in the pipeline so watch this space."

The final of Miss Universe GB takes place in Cardiff on July 15.
