A MAN has been cautioned after sending a series of abusive Twitter messages to Colchester MP Will Quince.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's parliamentary liaison and investigation team arrested the man on suspicion of malicious communications.

The move comes after Tory Mr Quince complained on February 23 about a stream of offensive tweets after speaking out in the row over proposed cuts to maternity services in the by-election seat of Copeland in Cumbria.

Mr Quince's son, Robert, was stillborn in October 2014 after being diagnosed with Edwards' Syndrome at the 20-week scan in May that year.

A Met spokesman said:"Detectives from the Met's parliamentary liaison and investigation team arrested a man on Monday February 27 on suspicion of malicious communications.
"The arrest was made as part of an ongoing investigation regarding abuse made via Twitter which was reported to police on Thursday February 23.
"The 40-year-old man, who is from Southwark, has accepted a caution for malicious communications.
"Officers have spoken with the complainant and advised them of the
outcome."
Mr Quince said: "My aim here was always to send out a message that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable."
