RESIDENTS at Hanover Court in Dovercourt enjoyed a special talk by the Harwich Society’s vice chairman.

David Whittle has a well-earned reputation as a guest speaker and has built up a wide ranging catalogue of talks on local subjects.

The talk given by Mr Whittle at Hanover Court was about the History of the Harwich Train Ferry Service and the room was packed with residents who were fascinated by the historic images projected on to the screen.

Hanover Housing’s estate manager Alison Calver said: “The residents at Hanover Court run a wide ranging social schedule and a David Whittle talk is a regular date on the social calendar.

“He is always both interesting and entertaining.”

The Harwich Society has recently invested in a new digital projector to enhance Mr Whittle’s talks which are put together using historic photographs and documents housed in the Harwich Society’s archive.

Mr Whittle said: “My talks are another aspect of the Harwich Society which helps to promote our town and widen people’s knowledge about what makes it so special.”

“I enjoy the interaction with my audience and never fail to give a talk without someone telling me something about the subject which I didn’t know.

“I provide the talk and my audience provide the local knowledge and colour.”
