A MUSIC and drama group will be celebrating its 30th anniversary with a spectacular weekend show.

Harambee is the drama and musical group of Maldon Methodist Church, and this month will have been running for 30 years. To celebrate this achievement, they will be putting on a show entitled “Face to Face” at the church on Maldon High Street.

The show contains a selection of songs and sketches from past performances and some new material, specially written by the group’s chairman Ham Harper.

Originally, the music group was started to assist the local detachment of the Girls Brigade when they entertained parents with a show called “Noah and His Floating Zoo”.

This proved so successful that the church council asked if the group could stage a show for the Church’s 125th anniversary celebrations. It was decided to form a church group and Harambee was born.

Their first show was a musical, written by Ham Harper entitled “A Man Called Moses”. Since 1987, they have produced at least one show a year.

The show takes place on Friday March 10 and Saturday March 11 with doors opening at 7pm. Entrance is by programme which costs £5.
