A WOMAN who lost her brother to cancer organised a Christmas fair which raised more than £1,000 for the hospice where he spent his final days.

Lisa Clay, from Witham, held her fourth Christmas fair at Benton Hall Golf and Country Club, which was in aid of Havens Hospice.

Her brother, Darren Roe, 48, died at the hospice on Mother’s Day in 2014, just six months after he found out he had terminal stomach cancer.

Mrs Clay, who works on reception at the golf club on Wickham Hill, managed to raise £1,114.

She said: "We held a shopping day with chocolate stalls, jewellery, handbags, books and beauty.

"I also went around Maldon, Witham and Braintree asking if businesses would donate raffle prizes.

"I just wanted to give something back, it went really well and we had lots of people come in.

"The club donated free mulled wine and mince pies which was nice."

Mrs Clay, of Pantile Close, said it was a devastating time but the fundraiser, which was attended by his two daughters, was an opportunity to give something back.

The fair was held on Wednesday, December 7.
