PRIMARY school pupils were given a glimpse into the future of education during virtual reality day.

On Tuesday, 360 pupils from Howbridge Church of England Junior School in Witham, were given the opportunity to experience virtual reality first hand.

Students used headsets to learn more about history and the world around them.

During the day pupils explored ancient Rome, the Great Barrier Reef and even had a chance to walk on the moon.

Other topics included the D-Day landing beaches, Hiroshima and the North Pole.

Kyle Church, a year six pupil, said: "I really loved exploring all the locations, especially Pearl Harbour; it was an amazing experience."

The 3D VR headset gave pupils a 360 degree view of a choice of 300 locations around the planet and beyond.

Damon Howlett, assistant headteacher at the school, said: "It is a brand new way for pupils to learn; they could actually feel as if they were in a place they've been learning about.

"The children were very excited throughout the day."

Sean Wade, headteacher at the school, is currently looking into purchasing a class set of equipment for the school.

He said: "I strongly believe this technology will enhance the learning at Howbridge. The feedback from the children has been very positive."
