TWO history buffs who met at Cressing Temple Barns have returned to tie the knot.

Nicole Turner, 37, and new husband Ryan, 28, met during the first Temple at War military and vintage show last year.

The couple, who attend re-enactments all over the country, wed on Saturday at the place where they first laid eyes on each other.

Nicole said: “We had friends that were providing some of the dance entertainment at the show and we both went along to support them.

"I was dressed as a Second World War civilian and Ryan was a US army officer.”

The couple instantly hit it off and of course there was only ever going to be one theme up for discussion when it came to wedding plans.

Nicole said: “My wedding dress was from the 30s, my veil and hat were from the 40s and I managed to source a set of 40s bridesmaids’ dresses.

"Ryan was in US army uniform and so was his best man, a lot of the guests also came in costume.

“My wedding car was a 1942 Chevrolet and Ryan arrived in a Second World War Dodge car which was a surprise for him - he loved it, the only way it could have made him happier was if it was a Sherman tank.”

Nicole and Ryan, who is from Plymouth, were legally married at a registry office on Friday.

Their wedding cake even contained layers of cardboard to give guests the impression rationing was still in action.

Nicole, of Sidcup where they now live, said: “Nowadays people tend to spend £25,000 on a wedding.

"It is not about the lavish details it is about who you are marrying.

“One of the reasons we like the 40s so much is because it harks back to simpler times where people just came together.

"It is hard to find words for how it feels now we are married – we are still on cloud nine.”
