A NEW modernised post office has officially opened in Heybridge.
The Post Office in Bentalls Shopping Centre closed on July 13 to allow for the improvement works.
It comes just a year after Tesco Express, which previously had a counter service, closed throwing the future of the service into doubt.
Residents had to travel to Maldon, Wickham Bishops or Witham to access a post office service before Bentalls reached a deal to continue providing the service last April.
The post office reopened onWednesday along with WH Smith to provide additional services.
The modernised office has three counters and will also stock WHSmith branded cards, stationery and gift wrap.
Other changes include longer opening hours on a Saturday and foreign currency being available.
The new store will open from 9am to 5.30pm from Monday to Saturday.
