A CHILD was airlifted to hospital with a serious head injury after being hit by a car.
Police closed Hatfield Road between Maltings Lane and Gershwin Boulevard in Witham yesterday evening following the serious collision.
The East of England Ambulance Service received a call at just after 5pm to a report that a 12-year-old child had been hit by a car in Hatfield Road.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "A rapid response vehicle was on scene in under four minutes followed by an ambulance crew, ambulance officer and Essex Air Ambulance.
"They treated a boy who had suffered a serious head injury.
"He was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for further treatment."
Essex Police attended just after 5pm.
A spokesperson said: "A black Suzuki Swift car was in collision with a 12-year-old boy who was on foot.
"He was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening."
The road reopened at around 8pm.
