A POPULAR drawing competition is up and running for the summer season.

The volunteers staffing the Harwich Society’s Ha’Penny Pier Visitor Centre run the annual drawing competition asking young people to complete a drawing on a given theme during visits to Historic Harwich.

Those taking part are separated into various age groups and the competition is judged towards the end of the summer season.

Organiser Lesley Elliot said this year’s theme is lighthouses and lightships.

“We want everyone coming into the Ha’Penny Pier Visitor Centre to enjoy themselves and our younger visitors love our drawing competition,” he said.

“We want all ages to end a visit to Historic Harwich with happy memories.”

The Ha’Penny Pier Visitor Centre is a source of information for locals and visitors alike as well as hosting the society’s free New World exhibition.

Harwich Society chairman Colin Farnell said: “The drawing competition is great fun and our Ha’Penny Pier volunteers enjoy running it.

“The visitor centre is at the heart of Historic Harwich and the team who staff it do a fantastic job.”
