A LUXURY hotel is finally opening in Colchester on Sunday in a former law firm office, creating more than 25 jobs.

The 17-room Blue Ivy Hotel will open on Sunday in the former Thompson, Smith and Puxon building on North Hill – after a £1million two-year refurbishment.

Developers James Moreno and Carl Blanchette say they are delighted with the outcome.

Mr Moreno said: “We wanted to keep the style in keeping with the building, which is Victorian.

“It has been a long haul and not without a few problems, because it is a Grade II listed building.

“Me and Carl have been in here every day and it is only recently we have really been able to see it take shape.”

The Blue Ivy’s restaurant will open to the public and guests in a few days, with Masterchef Professionals contestant Charlie Stocker in charge.

Mr Moreno added: “We are hoping it will be ready to open a week or ten days after the hotel.”

The pair also own the East Gate Inn, in Harwich Road. Mr Moreno said: “That was our first baby and has done well, but this is a much bigger project.

“We kept the bar open, because the locals wanted us to and it has been successful.”
