A 100-METRE waterslide could run down Colchester’s North Hill.

Colchester Council has revealed it is in talks with a firm to get the wet and wild attraction set up next summer.

The town’s Castle Park is also being considered as an alternative venue.

Council leader Paul Smith said: “I think it will certainly be a fun attraction and it is going drawpeople into the town centre and that’s going to be good for the businesses in the town centre.

“It will be an opportunity for people to take part in an outdoor activity event that is going to be good not just for themselves but for a charity as well.”

A waterslide company has been earmarked to provide the facility, but Mr Smith did not want to reveal details.

The waterslide, on which people slide down on inflatables, is likely to be open for one day in the summer.

A specific date or opening times have yet to be confirmed.

The attraction had been due to be set up on East Hill in August this year. but Mr Smith said the plans fell through.

He said: “We couldn’t fit it in time to get all the checks done.

“We have been looking at North Hill or Castle Park as possible locations.”

Mr Smith said people might be encouraged to make a donation to use the slide, but there could be costs to the council which are still to be worked out.

“There would be street closures, we would want to put additional resources into the town too and there would be clean up costs, but this might be offset by contributions,” he added.

Mr Smith also said to mitigate against any traffic disruption, town centre visitors would be encouraged to use the park and ride.

He added: “I accept some retailers will gain from this, some will lose.”

A giant waterslide was used in Bristol for the first time in 2014.

The Park and Slide, which was organised by artist Luke Jerram, attracted thousands.
