Plans for 14 houses in Burnham have been given the green light.
Work will soon be starting to transform the former Government fisheries laboratory (Cefas) in Remembrance Avenue, Burnham.
George Braithwaite, of Hitcham, Suffolk, bought the site last year and submitted revised plans to Maldon District Council, which were given the go ahead last Wednesday.
Cefas has been vacant since 2006 when the department closed, shedding 110 jobs.
