A local primary school has been re-awarded the Healthy Schools award.

The Healthy Schools Programme aims to promote the health and wellbeing of children and young people and increase attainment.

Southminster Primary school was among more than 100 schools across Essex which were successfully revalidated.

The award was presented by councillor Ricki Gadsby, deputy cabinet member for communities and healthy living.

Headteacher Karen Harden collected the award at a ceremony in March, along with Cathy Mische, wellbeing coordinator and pupils Aisha Blizzard and Adam Smith.

Karen said: “It all went spectacularly well.

“The children were really great ambassadors for the school and received the award with enthusiasm.

“It raises their self esteem and improves attainment and achievement and is a real driver behind good behaviour.”

The school will now aim for the Advanced Healthy Schools award.
