A PENSIONER is planning to donate most his possessions to charity as he prepares to emigrate across the world.

Alan Dettmar, who is in his seventies, has lived in Bluebell Way, Colchester, since 1987.

He is preparing to up move to Thailand to live with his wife and stepson.

He has already promised a few things to friends and neighbours, but everything else will be given to the Invcita Foundation – a charity set up in Colchester by the parents of Ashley-James Hall, a soldier who lost his legs in a bomb blast.

The charity helps wounded soilders and their families.

Mr Dettmar said: “The house has got a lot of memories for me, but I’ve got to leave it one day.

“I love my wife more than I love my house.

“When you’ve been in a house since 1987 and you collect stuff, you can imagine what it’s like.”

His three-bedroom detached house is filled with furniture, including tables, chairs, bookcases and sideboards.

He also has a selection of garden tools and kitchenware.

Mr Dettmar said: “Invcita a very good charity. We live in a garrison town after all so why not donate it to them and see if they can get some money from it.”

If he gets the asking price for his house and he is not faced with any unexpected moving expenses, he also plans to donate up to £1,000 to the charity.
