All of Maldon’s football teams provide a valuable opportunity for youngsters to get involved in the sport but without the adults who volunteer to manage the teams and run the clubs there would be no football.

The Standard spoke to just some of the people who have made it all possible.

A great-grandfather who founded one of Maldon’s football clubs is still scoring goals as their life president 44 years later.

Albert Kilbey, 81, of Wentworth Meadows, Maldon, founded the Maldon Saints team with his friend Tony Newton so that their sons would have somewhere to play football.
