A bodged resurfacing job resulted in 19 complaints, but no compensation claims.

Motorists faced costly repairs after tyres became clogged with grit and tar when workmen tried to resurface Steeple Road, between Latchingdon and Mayland, in August.

Yet despite criticism on social media, as well as complaints to Essex County Council, the council confirmed last week that no-one had submitted any claims for compensation.

At the time of the resurfacing, a council spokesman said a heavy burst of rainfall had prevented the surface from setting properly.
