HOUSEHOLDS across Essex have joined forces to save more than £250,000 on their gas and electricity bills.

The Essex Energy Switch, which is run by the county and borough councils, asked people to sign up and then allowed energy companies to bid for their business as a group.

More than 1,200 people switched providers during the scheme saving an average of £209.

Roger Walters, responsible for waste and recycling, said: “I am pleased that that this scheme has been a success and has benefited so many Essex residents.

“We will be running the scheme again later this year and hope that even more residents take the opportunity to register and save money by changing their energy suppliers.”
