AN auction for a walking tour of Colchester, taking in MP Sir Bob Russell’s best bits, failed to attract any bids.

Mr Russell was offering the two-hour tour on eBay to raise money for the East of England Liberal Democrats’ European election campaign.

He promised to take the winning eBay bidder to “significant places” in his life, followed by high tea at Colchester Castle Park.

Despite being on offer for a week, no one was willing to fork out the £40 for the prize.

Sir Bob, who remained tight-lipped on the tour high spots, said: “We do not get money from big business or trades union to fund our elections – money is raised by members and supporters.”

The veteran MP said there are lots of things for people to see in and around central Colchester.

He hosts a free annual walk around the town every New Year’s Day. Sir Bob could not confirm if the prize would be relisted.
