Baton twirlers and pom pom shakers are being sought for a majorette troupe.

The Silver Supremes from Point Clear, who have been up and running since September, are looking for new members to join them.

Despite being together for less than a year, the majorettes have already won their first gold prize at a carnival, and are aiming for more of the same in the future.

With 22 girls and four boys, the group is like one big family, according to leader Jacqui Gehring.

"If anyone has any problems we all help them out," she said.

"The group is great for getting the kids fit and keeping them off the streets.

"It's also really sociable and a good way of making friends."

She added: "We've got a couple of children with attention deficit disorder, and it's great for them because it burns off their energy and aggression."

Members, who range in age from two to 19, have a busy summer ahead of them, with slots booked at carnivals in Clacton and Walton, as well as Jaywick's summer fair.

"We've also appeared on television, in the children's programme Hider in the House," said Jacqui, who divides her time between Haverhill and her holiday home at the Orchards Caravan Park in Point Clear.

"My dream is to get the troupe to Twirl Mania at Disneyland in 2010."

As well as new members, the Silver Supremes are also looking for sponsorship from local businesses, as they are self-funded.

"We've raised money for everything we've got," said Jacqui, who is mum to two-year-old Amy-Louise.

"We're hoping someone might sponsor a vehicle for us, or put their name on our t-shirts."

The group meets every Sunday at Dumont Hall, Dumont Avenue, Point Clear between 10am and 2pm.
