Seafront shelters across Tendring will be refurbished as part of a major new investment.
Pierre Oxley, Tendring Council's leisure portfolio holder, announced his department will be spending £50,000 on the shelters this year.
He added that the council would also be taking a zero-tolerance approach to vandalism.

"This will be the biggest investment in out district's seafront shelters for many years," he said.
"We have made an additional £30,000 available for the shelters this year and this initiative will be rolled out district-wide.
"We will be looking at seafront shelters one by one and will come up with an action plan.
"There will be a move away from the old-style wooden benches and they will be replaced with more robust metal seating that will last longer and be less susceptible to vandalism."
Mr Oxley said the seafront shelters should be enjoyed by visitors and residents who should not have to put up with vandalised facilities.
"If we catch somebody vandalising the shelters we will take them to the cleaners," he added.
"We can't put up with having these valuable seafront facilities being abused in the way they have been."
