A BY-ELECTION to replace a councillor who quit after just three months will take place next week.

Chris Cowlin, who represented Holland Residents’ Association, was elected to Tendring Council at a by-election in March after the death of Mary Bragg.

He won the St Bartholomew’s ward election with a majority of almost 800, but resigned in June due to personal reasons.

A by-election, which is likely to cost between £5,000 and £6,000, will be contested by just two candidates.

The Conservative Party’s Graham Townley, of Sladbury’s Lane, will contest Holland Residents’ Association’s Colin Winfield, of Chelmsford Road, for the council seat.

Unlike previous elections in the ward there will be just one polling station, at Holland Public Hall, which will open from 7am to 10pm, next Thursday.
