THREE candidates will contest a council seat following the death of Mary Bragg.
Mrs Bragg, 76, who represented Holland Residents’ Association for the St Bartholomew’s ward, died on January 14, following a suspected stroke.
A by-election for the district council seat will take place on March 22.
Chris Cowlin is standing for Holland Residents’ Association, Keith Henderson for Labour and current Clacton East county councillor Linda Mead is the Conservative candidate.
An election will also take place to replace three councillors who resigned from Weeley Parish Council.
Gerald Swinscoe, Pam Needham, Alan Olford and council clerk Chris Finn all resigned at a meeting in January.
Parish councils can co-opt members to fill vacancies, but a by-election will take place in Weeley after at least ten voters in the village called for it.
Nominations for the election must be made by noon next Wednesday.
If more than three candidates come forward an election will take place on April 12.
