BURGLARS broke into a Clacton house by forcing their way through an insecure door.
The crooks targeted the home near Brook Retail Park and stole a handbag, car keys and personal documents.
Forensic investigators examined the scene and officers talked to neighbours.
Investigating Officer, Det Con Bernadette Lord said: "These thieves got into the property through an insecure front door as a result of the homeowner failing to properly secure their uPVC door.
“People must lock up properly. If you have a uPVC door, then push the handle up to engage the additional bolts and then use the key to lock it. Only by locking with the key do you fully secure your door.”
The house, by the junction of London Road and Raycliff Avenue, was raided between 10pm on Tuesday February 7 and 7am the next day.
Anyone with information should contact detectives at Clacton police station on 101.
