AN ANIMAL sanctuary in Point Clear is celebrating after the birth of a baby llama.

Volunteers at the Greenland Grove Animal Sanctuary were surprised when Tug arrived a week earlier than expected.

Mum Cleo has also been caught out and doesn’t have enough milk to feed the hungry young male llama, so volunteers are hand-rearing him.

Two more llamas are also expected in the coming weeks, with Cleo’s mum Gem also pregnant.

Carol Jacobs, who runs the sanctuary, said: “Cleo is a great mother to him but just can’t feed him so we are giving her a helping hand.

The sanctuary, off Point Clear Road, is holding an open day on the bank holiday Monday August 29, between 11am and 5pm, so people can see the new arrivals.

Admission is free and car parking is available.
