COMMUTERS faced delays and longer journey times on train services across Essex today.
National Express East Anglia said it ran an amended timetable because of the weather.
It said very low air temperature meant icicles formed under bridges and made contact with the overhead power lines.
Snow also built up in the doors and undercarriages of trains causing some equipment to freeze up.
Network Rail had patrol teams removing icicles as they formed and engineers were at main stations to attend to trains.
Train services between Braintree and London Liverpool Street only ran between Braintree and Witham.
Other services were cancelled and trains between Norwich and Liverpool Street were delayed.
