COMMUNITY hospitals on the coast have got top marks from a patient safety group.
Clacton Hospital, in Tower Road, and the Fryatt Hospital, in Dovercourt, were both given glowing reports from the National Patient Safety Agency.
Clacton Hospital achieved an 'excellent' rating for its food and a 'good' rating for its environment and privacy and dignity.
The Fryatt scored top marks for food, privacy and dignity, and its environment was rated as 'good'.
John Mills, of NHS North East Essex, said: “Running a hospital is a real team game and we are fortunate to have an excellent team in place and a system which ensures that any shortcomings are quickly highlighted and rectified.
“The findings demonstrate that our two community hospitals have risen to the challenge of public expectation and are delivering a quality service within a pleasant and safe environment.”
The National Patient Safety Agency assesses all hospitals and inpatient units with 10 or more beds each year.
It sends in a patient environment action team made up of doctors, medically trained staff, patient representatives and members of the public.
They examine levels of cleanliness, infection control, the quality of the environment such as decoration, maintenance and lighting, and the standard of patients' food.
Hospitals are rated excellent, good, acceptable, poor or unacceptable.
