A WEEK-LONG rubbish amnesty has been hailed a success after netting more than 13 tonnes of waste from people's gardens.
Three container-size skips were put out so people in Jaywick could dump their waste.
The clean-up drive collected 13 tonnes of rubbish as well as 35 TVs, 23 settees, 17 fridges, 18 beds, 12 microwaves, four washing machines, 12 bikes, eight cookers, a gaming machine – and a kitchen sink.
Tendring Council spokesman Margaret O’Dell said: "We estimate that the residents probably dealt with as much rubbish themselves before we started the five-day amnesty so it has removed more than 25 tonnes from the area in all.”
The clean-up covered the whole of the Golf Green ward and cost about £1,000.
