CALLS for a second GP surgery in Jaywick have been rejected.
A petition with more than 1,000 signatures was handed in to NHS bosses, putting the case for a new surgery in Brooklands.
But campaigners have been told that it “is not currently part of future planning”.
The only surgery in the area is Green Elms, which has a poor reputation with patients and has struggled to hold on to doctors.
Campaigners have argued the new site would give patients a choice and offer better access for disabled patients.
The petition was handed in to health bosses at NHS North East Essex, which organises GP services.
Penny Lansdown, the head of primary care commissioning, said: “A new surgery at Brooklands in Jaywick is not currently part of our future planning.
“Our focus is to work very closely with Chilvers McCrea, the company which is commissioned by NHS North East Essex to manage the Green Elms surgery, and patient representatives to ensure the surgery makes the necessary improvements to fulfil its potential."
Stan Sharp, who organised the petition, said he was disgusted by the response.
Douglas Carswell MP, who has supported the campaign and handed in the petition on behalf of residents, said the situation was “intolerable”.
