A POLICE hunt has been launched for a Jaywick man who skipped bail while on trial accused of carrying a gun to carry out robbery.
Danny Hicks, 29, of Sunbeam Avenue, and Ricky Dorey, 27, of Chadwin Road, Plaistow, were found guilty in their absence at Chelmsford Crown Court.
The court had been told that three men were stopped by police in the vicinity of houses in Chigwell, Essex, and were "about to commit a robbery or similar serious crime".
Prosecutor Stephen Rose told jurors: "They were equipped with balaclavas and gloves for use in the course of committing the offence.
"They had taken a loaded gun with them that was intended to be available for use in the commission of the crime and/or for resisting apprehension."
Jacob Henry, 27, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody and warrants were issued for the arrests of Hicks and Dorey.
Judge Anthony Goldstaub QC said: "Custody is inevitable," as he remanded Henry to appear on November 13 for sentence.
All three were found guilty of having the Smith and Wesson gun with intent to commit an indictable offence and going equipped for theft.
Henry had cried when told by police at the scene about the discovery of the gun, the jury heard.
Mr Rose told jurors : "The vehicle was moving slowly down the street and the occupants were looking at residential houses and motor vehicles as they passed. Stopping the vehicle in Manor Road, Chigwell, they found a JD sports bag in the boot.
"It contained a black woollen balaclava and a Smith and Wesson pistol. A firearms officer made the gun safe. Two rounds of ammunition were contained within the magazine which was loaded into the gun."
