A NEW £27,000 play area has opened for young children in Thorrington.
The site in Hazel Close is for use by those aged under eight and it is hoped it will become a popular attraction for families.
Tendring Council took over the ownership of the land from Bovis Homes in May as part of an agreement with the developer.
As part of a planning agreement the company also paid £24,000 towards the £27,000 needed to buy and install the new equipment.
Stephen Mayzes, cabinet member for leisure, said he welcomed the new facility and felt it would be well-used.
“This initiative has been carried out after talking with the parish council and was very much needed in this village,” he said.
“We are all delighted that young children in Thorrington will have somewhere to play with equipment suitable for their age - and it will help contribute to their well-being.”
The design for the play area was chosen by Thorrington Parish Council, which also selected the equipment.
Mr Mayzes said the scheme was part of the district council’s plan upgrading children’s play areas across Tendring.
