A MOTORBOAT was rescued in thick fog after being found four miles from where it should have been.
The Celia B dropped anchor and reported its position as a mile off Jaywick after its engine failed on Monday afternoon. The coastguard said visibility was down to just a few hundred metres at times.
Lifeboat crews couldn't locate the stricken vessel when they arrived at the scene.
They later found the motorcruiser four miles away off Mersea Island after the skipper set off a smoke flare.
Two adults and a child on board were said to be in "good spirits" but pleased to see their rescuers.
The RNLI towed the boat into Brightlingsea at 7.45pm.
