Clacton: Teen sacked for Facebook chat

A TEENAGER was sacked for calling calling her job “boring” on a website.

Kimberley Swann, of Clacton, says she did nothing wrong when she wrote a Facebook status saying she was finding her work as an office administrator boring.

The 16-year-old's comment went unnoticed at the time, but several weeks later her boss found out about the old post, and she was fired.

She said: “I was told I would be escorted off the premises.

“I did not even put the company's name, I just put that my job was boring."

She was handed a letter on Monday morning telling her she was being sacked.

It said: “Following your comments about your job that and the company we feel it is better that, as you are not happy and do not enjoy your work, we end yout employment with Ivell Marketing & Logistics with immediate effect.”

Stephen Ivell, the owner of the company, based in Stephenson Road West, Clacton said: “We do everything by the book."

Not the sharpest tool in the toolbox. Request your boss as a friend (only way to view status) and then slag the job off he gave you...

Not the sharpest tool in the toolbox - that maybe so, using facebook in work time - fair enough.

But to get sacked for saying you've had a boring day? I don't think that's fair or as a matter of fact, legal. Majority of companies have rules whereby you are not supposed to bring your private life into work or to have it interfere with the company, yet, it is ok for them to involve YOUR private life with work when they see fit. This person, didn't even mention the companies name.

In this current climate it is hard enough to get a job in the first place without sacking someone for simply saying a job is boring or that theyve had a boring day. I mean, who hasn't at some point throughout their entire employment said they are bored? I think, given how young the employee is and the context of what was said possibly a written warning would have sufficed.

I also agree with the persons parent, Clacton IS boring, I aint gonna get kicked out of my house for saying so am I!

This young lady is better off not working for such a company. Sounds like she was employed by a really crass arrogant man.

I hope a nice friendly local business that actually supports it's staff development takes her on and sponsors her through a business/administrat
ion course at a local college.

Ivell Marketing & Logistics sounds like a horrible place to work. Hopefully with all the negative press they are getting, business for Mr Ivell will ground to a close very soon.

Quite a few news websites are saying that this girl was physically marched off the premises by staff, if this is so and I was the parents, I'd be thinking of taking her to the local police station and reporting an assault.

I think an employer finds staff are bored he should benefit from their obvious ability to do better and give them more to do and more responsibility. Where was his sense of humour...? I hope all of facebook boycotts his products ..whatever they are
