COUNCILLORS have expressed their “disgust” at the impending arrival of the Corbeau car rally next year.

Worries have arisen that the roads will suffer along with residents.

Chelmsford Motor Club revealed plans for the event earlier this month which includes time trials across Tendring.

The district will be the first in the country to use new legislation allowing closed-road motorsport.

Frinton mayor Robert Bucke addressed the situation at the latest town council meeting.

He said: “I’m worried about the verges and who is going to pay for the policing of the event.

“Residents have been told to stay indoors or get out early to avoid the event.”

Deputy mayor Iris Johnson described the proposals as “disgusting”.

“I’m not against it – I’m just concerned who’s hosting it,” he added.

“I’m also worrying about the other residents of Tendring and if they don’t know what’s going on with roads closed here, there and everywhere.”

Councillors also questioned why the event was going ahead in Tendring and not in Chelmsford.

Mr Bucke added: “Tendring Council thinks this event is going to bring some regeneration and tourism money to the town, but I’m not so convinced about that.”
