CLACTON’s new scout headquarters and the West Cliff Theatre will benefit from this year’s Clacton Carnival.

The groups have been picked by the Clacton Carnival Committee to benefit from money collected during the event.

This year’s procession, which will have a theme of Going for Gold, will take place on August 18.

Nicky Freeman, from the Clacton Carnival Committee, said: “There were several applicants and after careful consideration the two organisations are the Tendring Scouts and the Friends of the West Cliff Theatre.

“Both are seeking money for major projects.

“The new Tendring District Scouts headquarters, in Valley Road, is going up fast and the Carnival Committee proposes to help fit it out or provide equipment.

“The Friends of the West Cliff Theatre, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary, are raising funds to refurbish all the seats in the West Cliff Theatre and the aim is to support them with this project.”
