VETERAN councillors have been named as the new mayoress and deputy mayor on Frinton and Walton Town Council.

Iris Johnson was formally voted in at the council’s mayor-making ceremony last Thursday night after serving as deputy to Robert Bucke for the past year.

Jack Robertson was sworn in as deputy mayor.

This will be Mrs Johnson’s fourth stint as mayoress of the towns and she has previously worked with Mr Robertson as her deputy in 2013.

After being voted in to the position again, she said: “It’s always an honour to be selected as mayor and this is my fourth time round.

“I did it once in 2005 until 2006 and then for a second and third time over two years.

“As I say, it’s a great honour and it’s wonderful that people actually vote for you – I’m very grateful for it.

“I’ve worked with Jack before and we work well together, and I worked with Robert, last year’s mayor, very well too.”

Mrs Johnson added: “One of the most important things to me over the next year is that our open spaces are kept in good condition – that is very important to us and it always has been.”
