AN “inadequate” care home in Great Bentley where just four residents received a shower in two weeks could be shut following a snap inspection.

The Oaks Residential Care Home, in St Mary’s Road, Aingers Green, was put in special measure last year after inspectors found it breached a series of regulations.

But a report published last week revealed inspectors have found the facility, which is home to 17 residents including people with dementia, has failed to improve.

The Care Quality Commission said it could now lose its registration.

During January’s inspection inspectors were forced to find a member of staff when they spotted a person at risk of a falling.

Records showed that on the week of January 15 only two people had a shower and two a bed bath, and just two people had a shower the next week.

The report said: “We found that sufficient improvements had not been made since our last inspection and the provider was continuing to fail to meet the requirements of the regulations.

“There were insufficient numbers of staff on duty to meet people’s care and support needs.

“People’s care had not been co-ordinated or managed to ensure their specific needs were being met safely. “People were not protected from the unsafe management of medicines.

“Failures in the service continued to be widespread and demonstrated the provider’s inability to make and sustain improvements.”

The Care Quality Commission is considering enforcement powers, including cancelling the provider’s registration.

Bellevue Residential Care Home, in Church Road, Clacton, could also lose its registration after inspectors found improvements had not been made since it went into special measures last year.

An inspection took place at the home, which catered for ten people with dementia and mental health needs, in February and identified a number of breaches.

The Care Quality Commission said there is no one living at the home at the moment. Neither of the care homes were available for comment.
