A POPULAR event to promote safety amongst older people is set to return to Clacton.

There was a full house for the Older Persons’ Crucial Crew initiative in Clacton last year and it is hoped for similar interest this time around.

Advice will be given on safety inside and outside the home, scams and how to avoid them; and how to live healthier, independent lives.

A number of groups and organisations are teaming up to put on the event on October 4, including Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, Essex County Council's adult operations, Elder Abuse and CVS Tendring.

The free event will be held at the Princes Theatre from 10am to 2pm and includes a buffet lunch.

Lynda McWilliams, portfolio holder for health and education, said the whole idea is to highlight older people’s safety.

“This event has been a huge success time after time and we are fortunate to have excellent commitment from all the various organisations involved.," she said.

"Now we just need people to sign up and then come along on the day itself.”

Speakers have been lined-up and will go round tables talking to small groups of around 8 people for 15 minutes each and there will be stalls to visit to discuss issues in more detail.
