PLANS for 34 homes on farmland between Clacton and St Osyth have been turned down.

Lord and Hunt put forward the proposal for the agricultural site, which is part of Earls Hall Farm in Earls Hall Drive.

The outline application for the properties also involved the creation of a new access road onto St Johns Road.

The plans included two roads within the site itself as well 150sq metres of public open space.

A spokesman for Tendring Council said: “It was decided that the development did not represent sustainable development due to the serious harm to the surrounding countryside.

“There was also no legal agreement put forward to provide the required contributions towards open space, affordable housing or school transport.”

The council added that it has already identified a five year supply of deliverable housing sites.

St Osyth Parish Council also “strongly” objected to the scheme as it would be on agricultural land and would impact both the health and educational provision in the area.

Agent Peter Le Grys said the site incorporated brownfield land for which permission for homes has previously been granted on appeal.

He added that the site is an open field with limited landscape value.

Tendring Council also received one letter of opposition from a resident who was concerned the application would be “backland development”.
